Buick Skylark - sounds like the name of an 80s action movie hero, doesn't it? Or a rogue robot secret agent. In reality, although it's more fitting to be used as the name of a futuristic sports car that's powered by magic, it's actually the real name of a real car that was first produced back in the 1950s. Indeed, the Buick Skylark is actually a classic car. It was a passenger car that was first produced by the Buick division of General Motors in 1953. It was made in six production runs, and in each run, the car design varied dramatically because of changing technology, tastes, and demands. The new standards that were being implemented throughout the years also affected the changes in its design. If you want to learn more about this classic car from Buick that was made by General Motors, simply continue reading.

The Buick Skylark was introduced in 1953 to mark the 50th anniversary of Buick. Its name was originally used by another company called Hupp for its own sporty car back in 1939. It was one of three specialty convertibles made by General Motors in 1953, with the two others being the Cadillac Eldorado and the Oldsmobile Fiesta. Along with these two, the Skylark was a limited production vehicle that promoted the design leadership of General Motors. Out of all three vehicles, the Skylark had the most successful production run with 1,690 units being produced. At that time, this was considered as an amazing sales feat, especially since its list price back in 1953 was a little over $5,000 USD. Many of the vehicles did stay in dealerships for long periods of time, though, and eventually got sold at discount prices.

Each and every one of the 1,690 regular production Skylarks were convertibles when they were made back in 1953. At that time, the 1953 Buick Skylark was equipped with a V-8 power and a 12-volt electric system. It is said that the Skylark was a handmade car in many respects. Perhaps this is why so many radical redesigns were possible throughout the years after its first introduction to the market.

The Skylark used a variety of V-6 and V-8 engines, but it was more common to find ones using V-8s than V-6s. Its radical styling and powerful engine could have made it a car for the masses but its high price and other factors contributed to it getting mixed reactions from the car loving masses. However, if you love classic cars then you should not miss out on the 1953 Buick Skylark.
