There are a number of books and materials you can read whenever you are expecting your first child, and becoming a father is a really wonderful experience that I feel every guy should go through at least once in their life. However, this doesn't mean that fatherhood comes without its trials and tribulations, and this happens not only while your wife is pregnant, but shortly after the baby is born as well. I of course was hoping that I would be prepared for everything that was about to come, but there is simply no way you can know everything until you go through it on a personal level. I have to say that the first week and change after my daughter was born, was one of the most trying times.

I still remember the first night she was born while we were still in the hospital, that I was extremely frustrated because my wife asked me to wrap her in one of the receiving blankets, and I simply could not wrap her like a burrito, as the nurse had showed us. The way I did it, was not the proper way, and I got so frustrated that I gave up. My wife then had to come over and show me what to do, and I still did and not fully understand how to wrap her. I practiced it several more times and eventually I was finally able to understand how to do it, and it almost seems comical now how hard I thought it actually was back then. However, this was just one of many times that my patience was tested early on, and I had to learn how to respond in the proper manner.

Of course the biggest test you are going to face in the early days, is naturally going to be when you are trying to console your baby at 3 AM while she is having cramps or needs burping, and it seems like nothing you do will work for her. You will find yourself walking back and forth in the nursery trying to comfort her, and I guarantee you there will be a moment where you lose your patience and want to throw your hands in the air and scream. However, you will find strength deep down inside yourself that you never knew you had, and find a patience for your new baby, because of your love for her.
