Having your kid engage in sports is very critical during his growth period. You may have heard of professional athletes having played their respective sports as early as three years old. Well in some cases, not every kid is bound to think of anything rather than eating and entertaining themselves that early. But as your kid gets older, he will lean over to certain interests. And if you want to advocate one for him, then you better know how to do it.
The 5 to 10 year old range for your kids will be very crucial. This is the stage where he has the tendency to absorb everything around him. Parents tend to not think much about how they treat their children during these stages. But in reality, this is where most of the skills that he will be using in the latter stages of his life will be crafted. For every parent, they always want the best for their child. And for the future, they want to nourish whatever skill the kid has. But to do so, parents have to be very careful.
Never Push It
You commonly see parents pushing their kids to pursue some sport to a point that it can be quite too much. Parents tend to do this, with the reason being that they want their dreams to live through their child. But no matter what reason there may be, this is not an applicable treatment. Remember that even at these early stages, your child must always have a say on what he wants to pursue in life. Let your kid fall for the sport that they want. Even if you do surround your kid with things that might spark his interest in a particular sport with, say, basketball or baseball, at the end of the day, it's still his call whatever he wishes to do.
Acceptance is the Key
Again, this is a very sensitive stage of development of your child. The last thing you want to do is give him a traumatic experience that might burden him when he grows up. If he likes a particular sport, or even a hobby, then nourish it with all the available utilities. Even a hobby that you may find hard to accept, do as much to nourish it as you can.
Be mindful though that certain sports and hobbies might not be right for your child in the long run and you must help guide him along the way.
