Learning how to use toilet is a big step for any child to take. Before you begin potty training your child, you should check whether he is ready for it or not. There are a few children who begin potty training shortly before they turn two years old and there are others who start potty training around the age of three.
The following shall be a few signs which will indicate whether or not your child is ready to begin potty training.
Staying dry
if a child's diaper stays dry for longer periods at a time then it means that they are learning to control themselves better. Keep in mind, however, that some children drink more fluids than others and thus urinate more often. Staying dry for at least one hour is a good sign.
Hiding
If your child regularly moves to a secluded area within your house where he can be by himself to defecate then toilet training should definitely be considered. Going to secluded areas mean that they know what they have to do and are preparing themselves for the task at hand.
Complaints
A child who lets his parents know that they want to have their diaper changed, either by pointing, tugging, or removing their diaper themselves, will be easier to toilet train.
Take note that some children do not really care whether or not they get their diaper changed. They may be aware of their soiled diapers but they choose to ignore it because they would rather spend their time playing rather than having their diaper changed. These kinds of children may be harder to toilet train but it does not mean that they are not ready.
Once you think that your child is ready to go through potty training then you should take the time to buy a training toilet for toddlers. Once they get used to that then moving to the regular toilet should be much easier. Be sure to help out your child the first few days they begin potty training.
The time it takes to potty train a child varies between children. It will normally take a long time before your child is fully used to using the toilet and an even longer time to get used to sleeping without diapers.
Most parents will have a tough time going through toilet training but if their child exhibits all of the mentioned signs then the child is definitely ready to use the toilet.
