Is A Baby Shower Right For You?

I had always been someone who felt like showers were quite silly, and since I was a guy, I was pretty much against them anyway. Once my wife and I found out that we were expecting our first child, a number of people in my family approached me about having a shower for my wife. At first I didn't want to hear anything of it, as I was staunchly against having one. I kept telling anyone who asked me about having a shower, that I felt like they were a waste of time, and I was not going to put people through it. I knew that most people who went to showers just did it out of duty, and in many cases they really didn't want to be there in the first place. However, my aunt most especially, kept insisting that we have a shower, as many people wanted us to have one for my wife.

My aunt even offered to have the shower at her house, and to arrange everything, including the food and guest list. Eventually my wife and I relented and allowed her to have the shower, and she is the one that suggested we go and register all of the things that we wanted. This is when we realized that my aunt was indeed a spot on, as our registry list grew and grew. There were so many things that we found out that we were going to need, that it was almost overwhelming. Whenever we printed out our final registration, I couldn't believe all the things that were on there, and most of them were mandatory things that we were going to need. But time we tallied everything up, and it was over several hundred dollars just for the basic things, and this is when reality finally set in for the two of us.

Whenever we had the shower almost a month later, all of our friends and family really came through for us, as we got a number of gifts that really saved us quite a bit of money. Everybody bought things that we needed on our registry, which was really a godsend in the end. This is why if you are on the fence about having a shower, you have to really put your ego aside and realize that this for your child, and not for yourself. In almost every case, your friends and family really want to do this for you, and I now have a different attitude about showers, and don't view them as negatively as I used to.
