Reading is one of the best ways that anyone can go ahead and get a temporary escape from the real world. Any parent who is an avid fan of reading would certainly want to impart the passion into their children. As reading is very much pleasurable, your child will definitely have fun doing it and at the same time educate himself in the process.

Are you scared of getting one of those children who seem to have no interest in reading at all? The ones whom you buy tons of books for but never even attempt to open them? It may discourage you at first, but there are a lot of ways that you can get your child to get hooked into reading. You may be surprised, but mothers can even go and start before the baby is born.

Like making children listen to classic music while in the womb, mothers can start reading to their children while they are still inside them. This will help develop an affinity for reading and can possibly be carried over by the child as they grow older, albeit unconsciously.

As your baby grows, this is the time to buy a number of books that you know would be sure to pique their interest. Children's books are often colorful and wild, so you must choose ones that are not only colorful but that have fascinating content as well. Once you have them, take the time to introduce reading to your children by doing it yourself. You can do it when they have nothing to do at home, or before bedtime, which is generally the best time. Reading out loud as well as storytelling will help develop their vocabulary and conversational skills, and the stories that you read to them will definitely ignite their imaginations.

You should take good care not to make reading seem like a chore to your child. If you force them into reading, they might take it the wrong way and not have fun. The best way to approach it is to let them pick the books first. Like has been discussed earlier, picture books are good during the early stages. Then progress to the ones with stories. By the time they start to appreciate reading, they would be the ones suggesting that you get them books with more words. Also try to let them value books, and to take proper care of them. My best suggestion is to get them a library card and let them explore all of the wonderful books they can read, while also taking on the added responsibility of borrowing. This would also be a great way for them to meet other children who love to read, thereby helping them develop their social skills as well.
