One of the most frustrating things for any new skateboarder is trying to land new tricks. Learning how to do new tricks takes an extreme amount of courage, patience and most of all, practice. However, too many people get bent out of shape when they can't land a new trick and do extreme things like bust their board or even give up.
To be a great skateboarder, you will need to travel the same path the rest of us had to at one time. To help you stay on track, here are a few tips that have always helped served me and other talented skateboarders I know.
First you will need to imagine where you want to be and set your focus on those goals. Each time you get to the skate park, keep your goals in mind and don't allow yourself to be distracted by other cool tricks you see being done.
I know this can be hard, especially when you are working on a new trick and just can't seem to get it. Sometimes it just seems easier to try something new, but in the end you will be starting right back at square one. So keep your goals in mind and keep working towards them every day.
You also need to put fear out of your mind. You are going to spill not matter how good you get. It is all part of our sport and you need to accept this sport comes with pain, bumps and bruises. Some people like to wear their scars as a badge of honor, but I guarantee you no one likes to be in pain. We all feel it, just those that can overcome the fear and keep getting back up are the ones who become great skateboarders. Those who are afraid and don't want to pay the price, become posers.
Don't try to land tricks that are too difficult for your skill level. There is absolutely no shame in working your way up from small tricks to a 360 flip. Not only will you look foolish, but you can get seriously hurt as well.
Remember skateboarding is all about having fun with your friends and expressing yourself. With practice and patience you will soon be the one impressing all the "noobs" at the skate park one day with your sick skills. Until then remember to keep at it, no matter how long it takes!
