In the 1990s, the Lotus Elise came as a huge shock. The UK-based company was quiet at that particular time, until it created an impressive car that won the hearts of many. The Lotus Elise was a godsend. Aesthetically, the vehicle was truly beautiful. Its rounded corners and the option to choose striking neon colors made the Lotus Elise an iconic car of the year it was created. The vehicle was manufactured with one theory in mind: to create a car that is lightweight, with a focus on performance and handling. The bare, minimalistic look of the interior helped make the Lotus Elise incredibly lightweight, weighing only 1600lb. The lightweight characteristics of the Lotus Elise helped make it extremely easy to drive, with an unmatchable handling and performance that spoke of the technology of that particular time.

To create a slimmer, sleeker appearance, aluminum alloy, a very lightweight but incredibly durable material, was used whenever possible, even on the uprights and in the brake discs. To showcase the ingenuity of the Elise team, an extruded aluminum chassis that was made in sections and then bonded together was used, as opposed to welding. What gave the vehicle a distinct power, however, is the Rovers compact K-series engine which was also made of aluminum alloy. The engine displayed an unmatchable output that displayed a powerful torque.

The Lotus Elise was the ultimate mid-engined roadster. The rear-wheel drive, two seat vehicle displayed a fiberglass body shell, and everything that was used to manufacture the car was lightweight, ergo, keeping production costs low while creating a car that displayed high performance. The Lotus Elise can cruise to the speeds of 124 miles per hour, and can go to 0 to 60 miles per hour in no less than 5.5 seconds. The transmission was a five-speed manual, with a displacement of 109 and an engine type of in-line four. Its the height of its power, the Lotus Elise can reach 118 bhp at 5,500 revolutions per minute with a torque of 122 lb ft at 3,000 revolutions per minute.

The Lotus Elise was the benchmark in the year when it was released. Everyone seemed to love how the Elise looked, especially in the variety of colors it was offered. Lightweight, high-performance, and created with low-production costs, the Elise could be produced without making it too expensive for people to purchase. More than anything else, the Lotus Elise was the 1990s car to beat
